A new feature called Tab Candy is in the works. It's still early in testing mode, as Mozilla's Aza Raskin points out on his blog today, but it looks to be exactly what I need.

Interesting! I sure hope they keep a moment-to-moment record of what happens in there though... crashing with a 100 tabs open and coming back to a blank slate would be less than amusing.
