Intel's CPUs Are Failing, ft. Wendell of Level1 Techs - [hardware] 04:19 PM EDT - Jul,15 2024 - post a comment Intel's CPUs, including the 14900K and 13900K (and others of those generations) have had ramping instability reports from consumers for months now, but Wendell of Level1 Techs has sources stating that Intel's CPUs are also failing in enterprise and server deployments. This concerning development suggests that some of the prior PL1 and PL2 configuration issues may be a different issue or red herring, as the server boards don't push power to the same extent as the consumer Z790 motherboards. We talk with Wendell about what this means and what's next for Intel.

Red Bull's 1200hp V10 Hypercar - [off-topic] 05:08 PM EDT - Jul,12 2024 - post a comment It's been designed by Adrian Newey, chief technology officer at Red Bull Racing. He's previously designed 12 Championship-winning F1 cars, and he's now turned his attention to a hypercar that offers F1-style performance! And the stats are absolutely insane...
It's powered by an incredible 4.5-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that offers 1,000hp. This is connected to a sequential automatic single-clutch gearbox with an electric motor. Combined, the RB17 creates an incredible 1,200hp, and all this power is sent to the rear wheels!
What's more, the V10 red lines at a glorious 15,000 RPM! It can also reach a top speed of 230mph (which is restricted), but don't expect to see one out on the road anytime soon - unfortunately, the RB17 isn't road-legal.
Almost the entire car is built from carbon fibre, from the bodywork through to the chassis and even the gearbox! As a result, the RB17 tips the scales at only 900kg, and the aero helps it produce 1.7 tonnes of downforce at 100mph.
It's limited to just 50 units, and they don't come cheap - the RB17 comes with a price tag of £6,000,000! So is it worth it? Let's take a closer look...

Zeekr is a Chiese car manufactured that came out of nowhere [established in 2021], and the 001FR is one of its first sports-performing models with 4 motors [1 for each wheel], with a top speed of 280kph [174mph] and acceleration 0-100kph in 2.07sec [0-60mph in 1.98sec] claimed by the manufacturer.
Find out if the Tesla can beat the Zeekr in a quarter-mile race.

Lambo Aventador SV v Hyundai IONIQ 5 N: DRAG RACE - [off-topic] 06:15 PM EDT - Jul,09 2024 - post a comment We've got Mat in the all-new Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, and it's about to go head-to-head against a Lamborghini Aventador SV!
So let's see how these two speedsters compare. Starting with the Hyundai, it's powered by two electric motors that can produce 650hp and 770Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels, and naturally being an EV, it's pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 2,235kg. However, considering the amount of power, it's relatively cheap, costing just £65,000.
Then alongside it, we have the mighty Lambo. It's powered by a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12, and this can produce 750hp and 690Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and it's a whole lot lighter than the IONIQ, weighing in at 1,525kg. It's a whole lot more expensive though, costing from £238,000!
The Lambo has more power, so will it be a walkover? Or will electric power prevail against this supercar? There's only one way to find out... LET'S RACE!

Samsung Galaxy AI may offer real-time translation in WhatsApp - [briefly] 02:05 PM EDT - Jul,06 2024 - post a comment Some time ago Samsung announced that it would expand the Live Translate feature to third-party Android apps. At that time, there was only a guess that those third-party apps would include WhatsApp, Google Meet, KakaoTalk, Telegram, etc.
Now, according to a tip from reliable tipster IceUniverse, Samsung may bring the live translation feature to WhatsApp. IceUniverse further added that the feature would be expanded to third-party apps such as WhatsApp, Google Meet, and WeChat.
Samsung introduced the Galaxy AI Live Translate feature with the Galaxy S24 series, launched earlier this year. Using this feature, Galaxy S24 users were able to live translate phone calls in real-time through on-device AI capabilities.
The real-time live translation feature was then rolled out to other supported Samsung Galaxy devices with the One UI 6.1 update. Now, the latest tip suggests that the Galaxy AI Live Translate feature will make its way to WhatsApp, and other non-Samsung apps.
This would help over 2.7 billion active WhatsApp users worldwide. Apart from carriers, people make use of third-party apps such as WhatsApp, WeChat, and Google Meet to communicate with others for voice and video conversations. |

Switch To Linux NOW! - [briefly] 03:37 AM EDT - Jul,05 2024 - post a comment We've been debating for years that Linux is superior. The real issue, in my opinion, is that major companies like Adobe and Riot are simply, yes, foolish, and they HATE LINUX. Additionally, engineering companies like Autodesk don't fully support Linux. People tend to prioritize their money, comfort, and gaming experiences over their privacy.

KOENIGSEGG Jesko Absolut | 0-400-0 km/h - NEW WORLD RECORD - [off-topic] 05:19 PM EDT - Jul,04 2024 - post a comment On Thursday, June 27th, 2024, at an airfield in Orebro, Sweden, a Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut driven by factory test driver, Markus Lundh, completed several new world records for a fully homologated production vehicle.
In one acceleration, from stand still, up to 412.72 km/h and back down again, the Jesko Absolut managed to take the following production car records:
0-400-0 km/h in 27.83 seconds. That's 0.98 seconds faster than the 28.81sec record for the same run set in 2023 by the Koenigsegg Regera at the same airfield. The Jesko Absolut's minimal downforce design (Cd of just 0.278) helped the car achieve the 0-400 km/h sprint section of the run in a mere 18.82 seconds (vs. 20.68s for Regera).
0-250-0 mph in 28.27 seconds. That's 1.33 seconds faster than the Regera's 2023 record. The 0-250 mph sprint was achieved in 19.20 seconds.
The Jesko Absolut was driven in standard, as-delivered form except for a roll cage fitted for driver protection, plus a One:1 seat favoured by the driver. It was running on E85 fuel and shod with Michelin Cup2 R tires. Times were recorded and verified using industry-standard timing equipment from Racelogic with verification of the data by Racelogic Ltd HQ.

NFC Starts Push to Standardize "Multi-Purpose Tap" - [briefly] 05:28 PM EDT - Jul,03 2024 - post a comment
The NFC Forum is gearing up to define standards for Multi-Purpose Tap, which will enable a single tap of your phone to perform multiple actions at once. NFC Forum is the standards body for Near Field Communication (NFC) technology (AKA contactless or "tap"). For example, when tapping to pay for something, your loyalty program info could also be transmitted, and receipt received, all in that single tap. Another example is age verification when purchasing alcohol. On transit, you might be able to pay and receive an electronic ticket in one tap. Another proposed use case is sustainability, where after purchasing an item, you would receive info on how to recycle the item and/or its packaging. The NFC Forum is seeking input from the industry on all possible use cases and how best to implement this technology. Key members of the NFC Forum include Apple, Google, and Qualcomm. |
The Truth about Snapdragon X Laptops... - [hardware] 03:16 PM EDT - Jul,03 2024 - post a comment Stress tests really show the weakness of these processors. They are very snappy when cold but once they are saturated with heat from a stress test then the clock speeds plummet. Even the x84 variant drops down to clock speed of about 2.2GHz under a full load stress test.

US Government Confirms Ban on Russia-Based Cybersecurity Firm Kaspersky - [security] 11:37 AM EDT - Jun,23 2024 - post a comment After hinting at the possibility of a Kaspersky ban in April of this year, the US government has finally banned the Russia-based cybersecurity firm from providing its antivirus services in the entire US over security concerns. The Commerce Department released a statement saying " Kaspersky will generally no longer be able to, among other activities, sell its software within the United States or provide updates to software already in use."
For current users of Kaspersky, the company will continue to release updates until this September. This is being done to ensure that the decision is not too disruptive for US consumers and they have enough time to find a new service.
Apart from Kaspersky, three other companies associated with the cybersecurity firm have also been added to a list of companies that are deemed to be a threat to the US's national security. It's believed that these companies might be associated with the Russian military and intelligence authorities
Although these services aren't banned yet, the Commerce Department highly recommends users switch to other options available on the market.
The relationship between Russia and the US has not been particularly great for quite a while now, and the US government is worried that Russia might use its influence on Kaspersky to get its hands on the data of US citizens.
