Overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB Roundup - TechAmok
Overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB Roundup - [hardware] 06:30 PM EST - Jan,21 2008 - post a comment So you have decided on an overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS video card but you
don't know which brand to go with? The chaps over at
HardOCP have posted a overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB roundup - they
tested three video cards from three of the biggest brands in computer gaming
hardware: EVGA, XFX, and ASUS. Here's a taster:
- The ASUS video card, which isn't in-stock, has a shorter warranty,
potential higher price, and the lack of an included full game (which both of the
other video cards have) in the card's bundle, plus the lack of gameplay
advantage experienced. Those issues come together to give us reservations about
recommending the ASUS EN8800 GTS 512 MB TOP.
- The XFX video card is a fine product, and if it were but a few dollars
cheaper, it would be a toss-up between the XFX GeForce 8800 GTS Alpha Dog XXX
Edition 512 MB and the EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB. Given time, these two
products may very well end up at the same price, and if that happens, a
potential video card buyer would be well-advised to choose either product. XFX
also has an excellent warranty, and their support staff is active in our own
video card forums and have shown themselves to be responsive and helpful.
- EVGA offers a lifetime warranty with this video card, and their warranty
covers overclocking AND you won't void your EVGA warranty by installing an
aftermarket cooling device. To top it all off, the EVGA product is eligible for
their 90-day step-up program, which allows you to trade in your video card (and
some cash) for the latest and greatest new upgraded part.
These three video cards came to us from three of the biggest brands in computer
gaming hardware: EVGA, XFX, and ASUS. At the end of the day, if we had to pick
one of these video cards, we would choose the EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB
because it is the least expensive, comes with Crysis, and it provides the exact
same gameplay experience as its more expensive competitors
