The chaps over at Tech ARP posted an overclocking guide for the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT video card. Here's a taster:

The G92 GPU was quite overclockable. Even with the stock cooler, we managed to overclock it by 17.5%. The GPU temperature was about 69-72deg.C at full load, even with the fan running at full speed. You should be able to improve on the core overclock if you replace the stock cooler with a better cooler. However, do consider the additional cost of a replacement cooler and the potential overclockability of the core. It could be cheaper and/or better to just buy the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB instead.

Surprisingly, the memory bus was not very overclockable. The GeForce 8800 GT used Qimonda HYB18H512321BF-10 memory chips. The -10 speed grade is currently the second-fastest speed grade for this memory chip, specifying a maximum frequency of 1 GHz. Since NVIDIA is only running them at 900 MHz, we expected these memory chips to have some overclocking potential. However, we could only reach a maximum stable memory clock speed of 951 MHz. This is just 5.7% higher than the official memory clock speed and 4.9% slower than what the memory chips are rated for.

At the end of the day, we only managed to overclock the GeForce 8800 GT with stable clock speeds of 705 MHz core and 951 MHz memory. This puts it just below the performance level of the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB. This new level of performance was seen in Company Of Heroes, F.E.A.R. and BioShock. However, the GeForce 8800 GTS' superior performance enabled it to maintain a significant (11-15%) performance lead in Crysis.

For those who have already purchased the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, overclocking the card can give you a sufficient boost in performance that obviates the need for an upgrade to the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB. Our overclocking experience is really not the best possible for the card. In fact, many GeForce 8800 GT users have reported far better results.
