Half-Life 2 Episode 1 is the first in a series of games that chronicle events after the end of Half-Life 2. The game engine is Valves 'Source' however unlike the original Half-Life 2 valve have progressed on to the more advanced level with the addition of some excellent HDR lighting which combines very well with the existing engine to produce some lovely looking visuals which are at times mind blowing.

The results of our Half-Life 2 Episode One test came as quite of a shock to us. Recently in Half-Life 2 and Lost Coast Nvidia cards have been dominating the equivalent ATI parts. Episode One has changed that and the X1900XT outperforms the 7900 GTX. Unfortunately for ATI when adding the GX2 results to the mix there is a massive performance advantage in favour of the Nvidia card. The trend continues regardless of the resolution although the Radeon looses less fps than the GX2 when making the move up to 1920x1200.
