Yesterday, I wrote that a number of defective Radeon HD 2400 and Radeon HD 2600 graphics cards had slipped into the distribution channel. The problem was reportedly due to a BIOS application process error, and one manufacturer was said to have recalled between 20,000 and 30,000 cards in order to reset their BIOSes. DigiTimes now has word from AMD that the issue is "under control" and that a recall request is "not needed." AMD says it has issued a software fix to take care of the problem, and the company claims none of its partners have requested that it recall the graphics chips that power the defective cards. DigiTimes sought comment from graphics cards makers who confirmed AMD's statements, although some manufacturers nonetheless "expressed irritation that the issue had surfaced at all" because it created a disruption in their supply chains.
