Lite-On DH-4B1S 4x Blu-Ray Triple Writer Tested - TechAmok
Lite-On DH-4B1S 4x Blu-Ray Triple Writer Tested - [hardware] 05:44 AM EDT - Jun,21 2008 - (1 comments) Bios
Magazine posted a review on the Lite-On DH-4B1S 4x Blu-Ray Triple Writer:
This Blu-ray disc burner can write BD-R media at 4x maximum, rewrite BD-RE media
at 2x, and read BD-ROM media up to 4x. Not only is it an attractive offering for
enthusiasts and movie buffs, but those working in advertising, graphics studios,
or IT departments will greatly benefit from increased storage capacity. Other
noteworthy features include the built-in Smart-Burn technology to handle buffer
under-runs, in addition to a brand-new BD-RE (rewritable Blu-ray) disc to get
you on your burning way and an OEM copy of CyberLink's excellent BD Solution (a
suite comprising PowerDVD, PowerProducer, Power2Go, PowerBackup, and Instant
Burn).
What's also cool about the new internal drive is that it offers twice the speed
of its predecessor but at a more consistent rate. The DH-4B1S burns data to
Blu-ray media at 4x using 'Constant Linear Velocity' (CLV) technology, allowing
data to be transferred at a consistent 4x rate throughout the burning process.
This is a reassuring and speedy alternative to some other drives on the market
that may claim 6x burning but use 'Constant Angular Velocity' (CAV) - a strategy
that starts data transfer at a slower rate and gradually builds to its top speed
only at the end of the session (thus in reality the average speed is much lower
than 6x). Many users don't use the full capacity of a disc when they make a
backup, either. If you use only 75- to 80% of the disc capacity, a 4x CLV
writing strategy will be a quicker solution then a 6x CAV strategy.
Of course, it's high-definition entertainment where the drive really shines. You
can enjoy 1920x1080 high-definition Blu-ray movies using the DH-4B1S running on
newer PC systems with the appropriate HDCP support. And besides supporting the
latest next-generation DVD technology, as a high-speed DVD and CD writer, the
DH-4B1S is fully backwards compatible with conventional CD and DVD technology:
writes DVD+R and DVD-R media at 12x; writes DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL media at 8x;
rewrites DVD+RWs at 8x; rewrites DVD-RWs at 6x; reads DVD-ROMs at 12x; writes
CD-Rs at 40x; rewrites Ultra-Speed CD-RWs at 24x; and reads CD-ROMs at 40x. The
only omissions are DVD-RAM and BD-R/RE DL.
