The chaps over at Madshrimps take a look at the Kingston PC6400CL4 and PC8500CL5 2GB Memory Kits. Let's see how they stack up against some fierce competition:
First and most important reason is that the Kingston memory kits offers very reasonable to quite good performance for an even more reasonable price. The KHX6400 2Gb kit can be had for as low as $225 (Froogle) , which is an absolute bargain. Of course, memory prices are falling a little the last couple of weeks, but to get a rather low latency memory kit at this price is nothing to complain about. The KHX8500 memory kit is selling for around $375 (Froogle) now, which also is a competitive price for a high end Micron memory kit. These prices are in my opinion in line with the performance the modules are bringing to the table. Another thing I like about these memory kits is that they do not require excessive voltages to bring out their best performance. The PC6400 offers its best performance around 2.15V, while the PC8500 kit offers outstanding cas 5 performance at only 2.25V. Even better, the PC8500 offers already great performance at 2.15V too.

Also, I like the no nonsense look on these memory kits, and the fact that they fit the standard ram "envelope" perfectly. No need to worry about oversized dimensions, or clearance between the modules and your CPU cooler or case edges. This memory will fit any motherboard without hassle. Finally, I'm happy to see that the PC8500 kit will run as at 1.8 Volts as it will at 2.2 Volts (or even 2.4 Volts). Micron kits could give some trouble with JEDEC specifications, for example when you reboot after a cmos clear, but not this kit.
