Apple is set to release iOS 26.3 in February 2026, introducing a significant new privacy feature called "Limit Precise Location" for compatible iPhones. This setting allows users to restrict the precision of location data shared with cellular networks, which typically determine a device's position based on connected cell towers. With the feature enabled, carriers may only access approximate locations, such as a neighborhood, rather than precise details like a street address. Apple emphasizes that the change does not affect signal quality, overall user experience, or the accurate location data shared with emergency responders during calls. It also has no impact on app-based location sharing, including services like Find My. The feature is initially available only on devices with Apple's own C1 or C1X modems, such as the iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, and certain cellular iPad Pro models with M5 chips. Supported carriers at launch include Boost Mobile in the U.S., EE and BT in the U.K., Telekom in Germany, and AIS and True in Thailand. Users can toggle it on via Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > [select line] > Limit Precise Location. This enhancement builds on Apple's ongoing efforts to give users greater control over their privacy in iOS. The update is expected to roll out broadly soon, though wider carrier support may take time.
