Intel Launches 8 New Desktop And Mobile CPUs - [hardware]
11:53 AM EST - Dec,29 2015 - post a comment

Intel today added 8 new Broadwell- and Skylake-based microprocessors to the official price list. New CPUs have unusual model numbers, like i5-6402P and i5-5200DU, which indicates that they may have different feature-set than the mainstream line of desktop and mobile CPUs. Intel also introduced today Celeron 3855U and 3955U ultra-low voltage models.

Two new desktop processors are Core i3-6098P and Core i5-6402P. Both model numbers have a suffix "P", that was used to signify the lack of integrated GPU in older generations of Core i3/i5 products. There is a good chance that it still means just that. The Core i3-6098P has 2 Hyper-threaded CPU cores, operating at 3.6 GHz. Its official price is $117, which is on a par with the Core i3-6100. The i5-6402P is a quad-core processor with 6 MB of last level cache. The CPU runs at 2.8 GHz, or 100 MHz faster than the Core i5-6400. The i5 processor is priced at $182.

Mobile Core i5-5200DU, i5-6198DU, Core i7-5500DU and i7-6498DU CPUs have the same number of cores, operating frequency and the size of L3 cache as Core i5-5200U, i5-6200U, i7-5500U and i7-6500U respectively. The official prices of "DU" and "U" processors are identical: $281 for mobile Core i5s and $393 for mobile Core i7s. At this time, we do not have information on what feature is associated with the letter "D" in the model number. For specifications of mobile processor please see further below.

Celeron 3855U and 3955U are successors to the 3215U and 3765U ULV chips. The new Celerons operate at 1.6 GHz and 2 GHz, and both have 2 CPU cores and 2 MB of L3 cache. The microprocessors do not support Hyper-Threading, and come with the HD 510 GPU.
