EIZO FlexScan HD2441W Reviewed - [hardware]
08:37 PM EDT - Aug,13 2007 - post a comment

BIOS Magazine posted a review on the EIZO FlexScan HD2441W monitor The display supports a native resolution of 1920x1200 pixels and can display Full HD images at 1920x1080p, making it ideal for Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movie playback, Xbox 360/PS3 gaming, as well as high-end video editing.
To ensure the screen is never too bright or too dark, EIZO's BrightRegulator reads the ambient light of the office environment and adjusts the screen brightness accordingly. Brightness is also kept at the ideal level with EIZO's patented backlight sensor. Within minutes of the monitor being turned on, this sensor corrects for brightness fluctuations that normally can occur for up to two hours. In addition, the sensor counteracts the effects of a power surge to keep brightness stable and protect against backlight deterioration. So, for instance, if you suddenly turn off your office light at night, the display will automatically lower the brightness to make the brightness levels less intense.

The screen has some other impressive features. A "16:9 Full" mode ensures no overscanning occurs when viewing HD content so the entire picture is shown and no important data or imagery in a scene is lost, and Picture-in-Picture allows you to view content from two different video sources simultaneously. Support for high bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) through the DVI-I input allows for viewing of content from HDCP-equipped devices, and the stand with a curved range of movement lets you position to screen up high near eye level or lowered at an angle akin to reading a book.

Few monitors on the market can match the HD2441Ws' image quality. It perfectly renders colour from the very darkest to the very lightest shades, and motion video is crisp and blur-free. The only problem is the price, and perhaps the lack of more conventional input ports. If you need a non-HDMI 24-inch widescreen display for general computer use, you'll easily be able to save hundreds of pounds elsewhere. But for a luxurious selection of digital ports, picture-in-picture facility and top-notch image quality, Eizo's FlexScan HD2441W can't be beaten.
