When you launch a CS3 application the application pings out to what looks like an IP address - and internal IP address: 192.168.112.2O7.net That makes sense, right? Adobe wants to be sure you aren't running multiple copies of their programs... Wait something is wrong here. Notice how they've tried to make 192.168.112.2o7.net seem like a harmless 192.168.xxx.xxx LAN address so the average noob wouldn't notice. Nowhere is it even mentioned in the CS3 screen that your usage data is collected by Omniture (huge behavioral analytics firm) when you check for updates. Omniture also uses tracking cookies on websites, including financial sites, so that they have the ability to link your online tracks with your personal info from your desktop applications, if they wanted to. Do they? Who knows? Companies are profiting by selling your private info to marketers--and who knows who else. It is easy to link together a user's tracks and software usage to create a complete profile, including their real name, financial data, and if they really wanted to; serial keys, passwords, and other data contained in the Windows registry. If you give a desktop app online access, it can transfer anything it can gain access to, the only reason they don't is solely because of trust. It looks like not even "reputable" big name companies like Adobe can be trusted. Harmless? Maybe. But do you really want marketing firms placing all this info about you up for sale?
