Samsung 970P 19inch LCD monitor - [hardware]
04:28 AM EDT - May,25 2006 - (3 comments)

OverclockersOnline reviewed Samsung 970P 19inch LCD monitor. What sets this monitor apart from any other LCD panel on the market is the Triple Hinge (Tilt/Swivel/Pivot) adjustment of the base and attached arm. Here's an excerpt:
Samsung knocks another one out of the park. They really have perfected the 19" LCD monitor increasing the specifications to a stunning 6ms response time and 1000:1 contrast ratio then incorporating a truly unique base and stand. The 970P is a culmination of a lot of work and polished software package that has completely eliminated the need for manual adjustments.

Throughout the testing period and incredible abuse the Triple Hinge took, not once did the screen flicker or flinch. Color remained perfect and I can't say as I saw anything out of the ordinary on the screen. I truly thought that at some point the screen would degrade due to the arm movement but even with dozens of people all touching the Triple Hinge arm like it was a stretch armstrong doll, the picture remained perfect and flicker free. Only longer term testing could see if this held true for the life of the panel.

Advantages:
- Triple Hinge provides unlimited adjustments
-Vertical orientation is mandatory
- Analog and Digital interface

Disadvantages:
- No ability to lock the Triple Hinge
- Adjustments really loosened up with use
- Heavy on the wallet

Generally I think Samsung make the best LCD panels. I'm not sure what your experience with them is like but remember a 19" lcd has an inch more viewable area than your 19" crt. Therefore viewing resolutions of 1280x1024 on the lcd should still be comfortable for you. There is a huge number of 19" models about, try something like the 940B. Good value :)

Yeah :)

Well, my old 19" CRT (1024*768 @85Hz) is dying, so I need a replacement soon.

I've thought about getting a good LCD for a while, but the thing that puts me off (especially with the big ones - 19" plus) is they have a fixed resolution which I often find is a bit too high for my taste/eyes. And I know you can run them at lower resolutions, but then the panel interpolates the pixels which is distracting :( When you change from the native resolution the text is really blurry...

Any tips for good 19, 20 or 21 inch CRT's under $600?

Wtf does the picture quality have to do with moving the stand around? It would have made more sense if said he expected the arm to weaken :S
