Budget graphics cards compared - [hardware] 03:23 AM EDT - May,15 2006 - post a comment
TechReport
has rounded up a trio of graphics cards (S3's Chrome S27, Radeon X1300 Pro,
GeForce 7300 GS) that cost under $80 and subjected them to an array of graphics
performance and video playback tests to find out:
The GeForce 7300 GS certainly deserves credit for doing more with
less, but it doesn't have quite enough to best the Radeon X1300 Pro. Sure the
Pro costs a little more, but given its consistently superior 3D gaming
performance, lower CPU utilization during WMV playback, and utter domination in
HQV with Windows Media Player, the higher price is justified. The Radeon
X1300 Pro is simply a better card-one we'd recommend paying a little extra
for, especially if you're looking to do some gaming on the side.
