Alienware has announced
two new
high-end gaming notebooks featuring dual NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 graphics
processors running in SLI. Starting at $4,499, the top-of-the-line mALX sports a
19" 1680 x 1050 wide-screen display, dual GeForce Go 7900 GTX GPUs, a 2.4 GHz
AMD Turion 64 processor, 1 GB of DDR400 RAM, a 100 GB 7200-RPM hard drive, and a
PCMCIA Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Meanwhile, the m9700 starts a much more
affordable $2,548 with a 17" 1440 x 900 display, dual GeForce 7900 GS GPUs, a
1.8 GHz Turion 64, 1 GB of RAM, and a 60 GB 5400-RPM hard drive with the option
for either a dual-drive RAID 0 or RAID 1 setup.
In addition to SLI, both the mALX and m9700 sport a 1.3 megapixel camera and a
full-sized keyboard with numeric keypad. However, despite their respective June
26 and June 19 launch dates, neither machine offers the option of a dual-core
processor, be it either Intel's Core Duo or one of AMD's upcoming Turion 64 X2s,
which are also expected to appear in June. (thanks
