It wasn't that long ago many would have said using 2Gb of memory in a normal desktop system would be overkill, however in recent times it has definitely become more of a necessity for the hardcore gamer. Titles like Battlefield 2 benefit from the increased memory volume and general desktop use can also be improved if you are multitasking with a few demanding applications. Driver Heaven take a look at a 2Gb kit from OCZ to see if moving from some older 1Gb memory can show any performance benefit and as this memory is capable of running low timings at DDR466 they also take a look at the overall improvements at those settings:

Looking at the more demanding system tasks such as encoding we can see that at DDR400 the OCZ product is competitive with the competition, despite slightly lower timings. Enabling the DDR466 speed on these sticks does give you some great benefits and these can clearly be seen in out gaming tests. What the frames per second statistics don't highlight however are the other benefits you receive from using 2Gb over 1Gb, our clearest example of this was the load times for Battlefield 2. With 1Gb installed we reached the server around the same time as many other gamers...installing the 2Gb kit resulted in us being first on the server almost every time. It really should be time you contemplated upgrading to a 2 gigabyte kit in your system.
