Asus P5WD2-E review - [hardware] 03:32 AM EDT - Apr,25 2006 - post a comment
If you are looking for a nice LGA775 motherboard for your next overclocking
project,
Neoseeker says the ASUS P5WD2-E is a fantastic choice.
I'll keep this short and sweet: ASUS' P5WD2-E is one of the best LGA775-based
overclockers that we've had in the lab. Not only did it break last week's
already-high 280 MHz, but it managed to reach a nice, big, fat 300 MHz. You
heard that right -- 300 MHz on the FSB, or 1200 MHz if you quad-pump it. The
other settings used were as follows: CPU multiplier: 14x (resulting in 4.2 GHz),
Memory clock: DDR2-800 (next option up was 900 MHz, due to the system of
dividers, and this was too high), Memory timings: 5-4-4-9/2T, Vcore: 1.5V,
VDIMM: 2.1V.
This is some seriously nice stuff! Our 50% increase in FSB and 31% increase
in CPU clock speed netted us increases of ~25% in Doom 3, ~44% in SiSoft Sandra
Memory Bandwidth, and ~21% in WinRAR. Had there been finer adjustments for the
DDR2 clock, we would have probably managed to overclock the RAM a good amount,
allowing the memory-hungry Pentium 4 to feed off some extra bandwidth.
