Fudzilla reports that Intel will strike a second time on January 17 with the Pentium E6600—again, no relation to the Core 2 Duo that used to go by that model number.
The E6600 will reportedly run at 3.06GHz with the same two 45-nm Penryn cores, 2MB of shared L2 cache, and 1066MHz front-side bus as the E6300. Fudzilla adds that Intel will price the newcomer at $84, which will push the 2.93GHz Pentium E6500 down to just $74.
