Patriot Gamer Series 4GB PC3 12800 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory Tested - TechAmok
Patriot Gamer Series 4GB PC3 12800 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory Tested - [hardware] 05:06 AM EDT - Oct,17 2009 - post a comment Hi Tech Legion takes a further look at the Patriot Gamer Series 4GB PC3 12800 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory. Here's a taster:
The Patriot Gamer Series AMD Black Edition Memory is not only low latency, it also requires less volts than other kits I have looked at in the same price range. Most of its competitor's kits require 1.8 to 1.95 volts at the same timings. Although not shown, with the same timings, I was also able to drop the voltage as low as 1.6 and the memory was as stable as it was using 1.7. For those of you who may have an Intel system, the Gamer Series B.E.M.P. will also run on the new Core i7 and i5 at 1.6V @ 1600MHz and 1.5V @ 1333MHz . You will just not be able to take advantage of the memory profiles.
What did I particularly like about the memory? Memory automatically defaults to 1333MHz in my motherboard's BIOS since this is what AMD recommends. Knowing I had Memory that was B.E.M.P. certified, there was no need for me to enter the BIOS and make any changes. I just booted into Windows, opened AMD OverDrive, downloaded the profile for the memory and rebooted the computer to save the settings. Once the settings are saved, you can also check your motherboard's BIOS to see if they use AMD B.E.M.P. and if it's enabled. This is another way to ensure that you are currently using the profile. One concern I did have was possible incompatibilities with new Black Edition Processors after launch. Will there be a profile for that processor available immediately? I decided to call and speak to Patriot about it and the answer is as follows: prior to the launch of a new Black Edition Processor, Patriot receives a sample from AMD to test. So by the time of that launch, Patriot will have had time to test different profiles and send an approved profile to AMD for upload. The profile should be available at launch date. Temperatures at load while running OCCT Large Data Set, (IR on heat sink) only reached 38C and I didn't notice any hot spots, so the heatsink dissipates the temperatures quite evenly.
Using the Patriot Gamer Series AMD Black Edition Memory, you won't be stuck using enhancements that are embedded in the memory's SPD, which cannot be updated. Since these profiles are uploaded to the AMD Server, they can be changed by Patriot at any time, if a better solution is found. If you already have an AMD Black Edition processor and would like to boost your performance, or are thinking of upgrading to a Black Edition Processor, the Patriot Gamer Series AMD Black Edition should not be overlooked. You will get solid performance, updated enhancements and overclockability at an affordable price.
