Mr. Jen-Hsung Huang, CEO - Nvidia, is back with one of his boldest statements - the CPU is set to grow 3x in performance by 2015, whereas the combination of CPU-GPU will increase a dizzying 570x in processing power. Surprisingly, the chief scientist at Nvidia,
William Dally, estimates 25 TFLOPS graphics cards by 2015, which is a 25x increase, considering GTX 285's 1 TFLOP output. Even this 25x increase is deemed exponential. Nvidia's 2006 flagship - 8800 GTX churned out 0.5 TFLOPs. 2 years on, 2008 - GTX 280 was just shy of 1 TFLOP. Huang is a strong believer of the CPU-GPU co-processorship and acknowledges both have to grow together. However, the GPU is set to expand at a much faster pace than the CPU. Together, Huang expects the total processing power to incease by 570x. This does not mean that the GPU alone would produce 570 GFLOPs by 2015.
