Expreview reports that JC from XtremeSystems Forums has managed to score a sample of Intel's upcoming 6-core, 32-nm Gulftown CPU which will eventually replace today's Core i7-965 at the high-end of the Intel CPU product stack. JC posts two images of Gulftown. One has the CPU pictured alongside a pair of Xeon W5590 4-core workstation CPUs, and the second is a screenshot showing CPU-Z and Windows Task Manager open. According to CPU-Z, the Gulftown processor inside JC's system was running at 2.4GHz with a 133MHz base clock and 18.0x clock multiplier, with 256KB of L2 cache per core (1.5MB total) and 12MB of L3 cache shared amongst all 6 cores. With HT enabled, the CPU can process up to 12 threads simultaneously. Gulftown is expected to launch in Q1'2010.
