Sony will be lauching six
new additions to it's Bravia line up on May 1st in order to boost sales
ahead of the World Cup soccer tournament to be held in Germany. All models are
capable of showing high-definition TV broadcasts with enhanced color
reproduction functions. The upper-grade V2000 series comprises 32", 40", and
46-inch models will be equipped with Sony's new "live color creation"
technology, which uses a wide spectrum backlight (Wide Colour Gamut Cold Cathode
Fluorescent Lamp) which used phosphors developed for the company's Trinitron
CRTs. The result: enhanced reds and greens that "brings what you see closer to
the true colours of nature than ever before", Sony claims. The V series' screens
also have a 1300:1 contrast ratio, 8ms response time and a 178 viewing angle.
They're backed by a SRS TruSurround XT audio signal processing system to create
a better sound pattern from the display's stereo speakers - also a feature of
the S series screens, which use the same LCD technology, as do the X series
models. These V models are expected to sell for about 280,000 yen, 380,000
yen and 490,000 yen in Japan.
The other three models, to be sold in the S2000 series, are also available with
32-, 40-, and 46-inch screen sizes. All of them features a 1,300:1 contrast
ration, 8ms response time and 500cd/m2 brightness. They will likely carry
slightly lower price tags, at 250,000 yen ($ 2360), 350,000 yen ($ 2950) and
460,000 yen ($ 3880), respectively.
