Asus' Eee PC 1000HE has become available for
pre-order in the United States. According to Asus, the Eee PC 1000HE features a new Atom N280 processor that runs at 1.66GHz with a 667MHz front-side bus-faster than the 1.6GHz Atom N270 (with its 533MHz FSB) that powers most other netbooks. On top of that, the 1000HE has a high-density 8700mAH battery. Asus claims a maximum 9.5 hours of battery life when using its Super Hybrid Engine's power-saving mode with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the integrated webcam disabled. Aside from those little touches, the 1000HE's specifications sound similar to those of the older Eee PC 1000H: 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a 160GB mechanical hard drive, and a weight of 3.2 lbs. Asus has
ended up setting the Eee PC 1000HE's suggested retail price at $399, a little
cheaper than the $469 it quoted last month. FYI, you can save $25 by
pre-ordering.
