Call of Duty World at War 16 card VGA performance test - TechAmok
Call of Duty World at War 16 card VGA performance test - [hardware] 08:38 PM EST - Nov,10 2008 - (1 comments)
As you probably already noticed, Activision has released the fifth part in
the Call of Duty series, Call of Duty 5: World at War.
Guru3D take a look at image quality and then they test it with sixteen graphics
cards from both ATI and NVIDIA. Here's a taster:
2560x1600 is always the best resolution to check out RAW GPU
performance. And we already expected that the Radeon HD 4870 X2 would go for the
kill here. And so it does. Anything above a Radeon 4870 512MB will allow you to
play the game pretty well at this resolution. Since we measure at the most heavy
on the GPU level, the rest of the levels you could add another 20% performance
to. But the reality is .. how many of you actually have a 30" Monitor, right?
The 1920x1200 resolution is a little more down to earth really, and we
have a surprising number one. The GeForce 9800 GX2 couldn't shine in 2560x1600
because it was a little memory limited with 512MB per GPU. It does however has
an intense amount of shader processors available in certain titles, and that
does show. COD WaW is such a title, and the GX2 loves it.
Once we arrive at 1600x1200 we are roughly at the resolution that most of
you guys game in, depending on your monitor of course. Even a 129 USD Radeon
4830 is strong enough to push hard. The 9800 GX2 remains on top. Followed
closely by the Radeon 4870 X2 and GeForce GTX 280.
The budget minded will play the game at 1280x1024. So let's leave out the
high-end cards out of the equation for a minute. The reality here is that if
you pick up a Radeon 3870 which sell for like 70 bucks these days, you can play
this game at 1280x1024 with extensive eye candy enabled, which includes 4xAA
