Shuttle
has announced the X27D, a small-form-factor barebones PC that includes one
of Intel's dual-core Atom 330 processors. If you haven't received the memo yet,
the Atom 330 is essentially a pair of 1.6GHz Atom 230 CPU dies stuck together on
the same package. That means two cores and four threads, if you take
Hyper-Threading into account. Shuttle couples the X27D's Atom 330 processor with
a Mini-ITX board that has an Intel 945GC chipset, Intel GMA 950 graphics with
both VGA and DVI outputs, one DDR2 memory slot, two Serial ATA ports, one
"parallel" ATA port, Gigabit Ethernet, and 5.1-channel audio. The teeny chassis
(which measures just 9.8" x 7.3" x 2.8") leaves room for one 2.5" hard drive and
one slim optical drive, and it receives power via an external and fan-less 60W
power supply. Of course, the whole point of using Atom CPUs is to cut costs.
Shuttle quotes an EU price of €205 before taxes. Considering how European and
U.S. prices tend to relate, I'd expect pricing closer to the $200 mark. (thanks
