Remember I reported that Nvidia plans to re-brand its GeForce 8800 GS as a
GeForce 9600 GSO? Well, the company seems to have gone ahead and done just that.
The
Nvidia website now has a listing for a GeForce 9600 GSO graphics card, and
its specifications are eerily similar to those of the GeForce 8800 GS: 96 stream
processors, 500MHz core and 1375MHz shader clock speeds, 384MB of 800MHz GDDR3
memory with a 192-bit memory interface... Nvidia doesn't get into further
details, but I'd wager the 9600 GSO is based on the same stripped-down G92
graphics processor as the 8800 GS, too. Aside from the name, only one thing
seems to have actually changed: the cooler, which now resembles the GeForce 9600
GT's more than the 8800 GT's. (thanks
