This
Netflix press release announces that the popular mail-order movie rental
service has decided to dump the HD-DVD format and will now only rent high-def
movie disks in the Blu-Ray format. Netflix will begin to phase out the rental of
HD-DVD disks from its service by the end of the year. This represents yet
another blow to the HD-DVD camp which got smashed earlier this year when Warner
Bros. announced their decision to go Blu-Ray exclusive beginning in May after
previously supporting both formats.
In yet another blow against the HD-DVD disk format today,
this Best Buy press release announces that beginning in early March, the nationwide consumer electronics retailer will "recommend" the Blu-Ray format and will "prominently showcase Blu-ray hardware and software products" in its stores and on its web site
