With the adoption rate of high speed connections growing and users
increasingly getting their movies and music from the web rather than traditional
outlets, ISP Time Warner Cable announced that they will begin experimenting with
billing their customers based on Internet usage per month, rather than a
traditional flat rate. The company plans to launch a trial program starting in
Beaumont, TX, in which
new customers
will be offered tiered levels of service based on how much data they send and
receive per month. Exact prices have not been released, nor has an exact
date been determined, but it's probably a safe bet that other ISPs will be
watching this one closely.
