Trichinosis
is a particularly unsettling disease in which roundworms make use of the
human body to stay alive and then reproduce. Trichinosis occurs mostly in
meat-eating animals and it is acquired through the consumption of the roundworm
larvae that exist in uncooked or undercooked meat. In trichinosis, the larvae
then mature in the human body into adult worms, which then in turn produce
larvae that will work their way around regions of the body. Trichinosis can go
undetected in mild cases, or develop into something much more serious.
