Fudzilla reports that Intel will roll out its first dual-core Celeron processor on January 20. The chip will come alone, and it will be branded Celeron E1200. Fudzilla quotes a clock speed of 1.6GHz, which it claims the upcoming Celeron will pair with an 800MHz front-side bus and 512KB of shared L2 cache-identical specifications to those that already leaked out in October. Fudzilla quotes a price tag of $54, which is $1 higher than the figure in the October rumors. Either way, the chip will undercut AMD's current cheapest dual-core offering, the $68 Athlon 64 X2 4000+. As Fudzilla points out, the Celeron should essentially be akin to a Pentium E2140 with half its cache removed. (The Pentium E2140 also runs at 1.6GHz with an 800MHz FSB, but it has 1MB of shared L2 cache.) Intel currently prices the Pentium E2140 at $64, so the cache removal will apparently entail a $10 discount.
