Intel
is preparing the mobile Intel 45 Express chipset (GM45) for its
next-generation Centrino platform (Montevina), according to sources at notebook
makers. The chipset will be launched in second quarter of 2008. The chipset has
a new integrated graphics core, the GMA X4500, which will support DirectX 10 and
Shader Model 4.0 and has built-in Intel Clear Video technology to decode
high-definition video directly from the core. Performance will be three times
faster than the previous GM965 chipset and is expected to compete with other
graphics solutions on the market, the sources detailed. In addition to the GM45,
the Montevina platform will also have two entry-level IGP chipsets, the GS45
without built-in HDMI and Display Port support and the GL40 with slower graphics
performance. They will be launched a quarter later than the GM45, noted the
sources.
