AMD
has confirmed the model name and clock speed of the upcoming quad-core
Phenom processors and plans to launch them as scheduled in Nov/Dec while Phenom
FX will launched in Q1 next year. Phenom FX-82 will be clocked at 2.6GHz or
higher while the faster FX-8x model could hit 3GHz. FX-82 DVT samples will be
available in Q4 while production will kick off in Q1 2008 while FX-8x DVT sample
and production is slated for Q2 2008. Phenom 9600 and 9500 clocked at 2.4GHz and
2.2GHz respectively will be the first quad-core Phenom processors to hit the
market in Nov. Phenom 9700 clocked at 2.6GHz will come along slightly later in
Dec. A faster iteration of the quad-core Phenom will come along in Q2 2008 while
DVT samples will be available in Q1. Most likely, it will be called Phenom 9800
and clocked at 2.8GHz.
In other news,
AMD has added six new, power-efficient processors to its product line. The
new chips all have power envelopes of 45W, and they include Sempron, Athlon, and
Athlon X2 models. Incidentally, all six chips use AMD's new model numbering
scheme with two leading letters and a four-digit number. The chips include one
Athlon X2 model, the BE-2400, which has a 2.3GHz clock speed and is priced at
$104. There are also two single-core Athlon models: the 2.2GHz LE-1600, and the
2.4GHz LE-1620, which cost $47 and $53, respectively. On the Sempron side of
things, AMD has rolled out three chips: the LE-1100, which runs at 1.9GHz and
costs $37; the LE-1200, which runs at 2.1GHz and costs $48; and the LE-1250,
which is clocked at 2.2GHz and has a $53 price tag.
