AMD rolled out its
Radeon HD 2900 Pro
on Tuesday, and now the company seems to be gearing up for the launch of another
mid-range, R600-based graphics card.
According to VR-Zone, the Radeon HD 2900 GT we heard about last week is
scheduled to hit stores on October 8. The Radeon HD 2900 GT will reportedly have
the same 600MHz core clock speed and 800MHz memory speed as the Radeon HD 2900
Pro and XT. However, it will have 240 stream processors, 256MB of memory, and a
256-bit memory bus instead of the 320 SPs and 512MB of RAM running off a 512-bit
bus that you get with the 2900 Pro and XT.
It looks like the existence of these 2 cards are just to get rid of the R600
stock that didn't attained XT speeds before RV670 comes along in November.
However, HD 2900 XT, GT and Pro will reach EOL by end of October (!) so the
lifespan of the two new cards is really short.
