NVIDIA introduces GeForce 7600 GS, 7300 LE - [hardware]

Today NVIDIA is introducing two new additions to its GeForce 7 family: the GeForce 7600 GS, and the GeForce 7300 LE. As one might expect, the 7600 GS uses the same G73 graphics chip as the 7600 GT, inheriting support for dual-link DVI, PureVideo, and SLI. The GeForce 7300 LE is similar to the 7300 GS, but its core runs 100MHz slower at 450MHz. Memory speeds will depend on board partners, although NVIDIA says that at least some will ship 7300 LEs with memory running at an effective 666MHz.

Legit Reviews has a preview of the NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS posted today with the added bonus of an interview style FAQ at the end.
In addition to the price point, users will find the GeForce 7600 GS to be an excellent match for Windows Media Center Edition system configurations with its passive cooling, and PureVideo MPEG-2 HD/SD and H.264 decode acceleration. We heard NVIDIA say that this was "The Ultimate Multimedia Solution" so many times we are still having dreams about it, but it might just be true. Using an HDCP-ready 7600 Series graphics card, users can playback HDCP-protected content to HDCP-capable monitors. HDCP versions of GeForce 7600 GS and 7600 GT graphics boards should be available from various board vendors in the near future.

The GeForce 7600 GS is Vista-Ready, and are great Vista upgrade solutions for millions of existing PCs using substandard integrated graphics or old and slow discrete graphics. Now we just need Vista to come out! On March 21, 2006 Microsoft told industry analysts that Vista would be delayed another three months, which means sometime in January 2007 we might see Microsoft launch the Vista OS. If you need to upgrade your system you still have plenty of time to do so.
Another performance preview can be found on Firing Squad:
NVIDIA's delivered another compelling GPU with the GeForce 7600 GS. You've got a card that delivers performance that's greater than last year's mainstream GPU of choice, the 6600 GT. In shader-heavy cases like F.E.A.R. the difference is as great as 10% at 800x600, while another shader-heavy case, Half-Life 2 Lost Coast sees even larger margins. The difference is greater than 20% at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200, despite the GeForce 6600 GT's faster memory subsystem. With the GeForce 7600 GS delivering this kind of performance at price points similar to the GeForce 6600 GT, we'd definitely consider it to be the wiser upgrade. Basically the GeForce 7600 GS makes us forget about the 6600 GT. On top of this the board does all this with just passive cooling, and still supports NVIDIA's transparency AA mode.
