VR-Zone reports that AMD has
stripped RAID 5 support from the SB700 south bridge that will accompany its
upcoming high-end RD790 chipset. With RAID 5 out of the picture, the SB700 will
only have support for RAID levels 0, 1, and 10. For reference, RAID 5 combines
striping with parity blocks, making it a more space-saving solution than either
RAID 1 or RAID 10 for users who need fault tolerance. Right now, south bridges
in both Intel's and Nvidia's high-end chipsets offerings have RAID 5 support.
VR-Zone says AMD will only bring RAID 5 support into the SB700's successor, the
SB750. Aside from that capability, the SB750 will supposedly be identical to the
SB700.
