As expected, today
Intel updated their price list with the latest 1333MHz FSB CPUs, as well as
updated pricing. One CPU in particular saw its priced slashed substantially --
the Core 2 Quad Q6600. Official pricing went from $530 to just $266, that's a
reduction of 50%!. The only other CPU to see a price cut was the E4400, which
went from $133 to $113, which equates to a 13% cut. A new chip, the 2.2GHz Core
2 Duo E4500, has also replaced the E4400 at the $133 mark. These cuts seem to be
a complementary effort to the introduction of the Core 2 Duo E6050 series and
Core 2 Quad Q6700 that happened a week ago. The new Core 2 Duo E6850, E6750, and
E6550 undercut the previous Core 2 Duo E6000 series by a fair margin, and the
Core 2 Quad Q6700 effectively took the Q6600's place at $530.
Pricing on all of the Core 2 Extremes, including the X6800 remains at $999,
while pricing on older C2Ds like the E6700 also remains unchanged: the E6700
still sells for $316 despite the fact that the faster E6750 now lists for $183.
