A
new promotion launched by the Blu-ray Disc Association promises to offer
five free Blu-ray movie titles to buyers of Blu-ray players. As Ars Technica
explains, all Blu-ray players are eligible, including Sony's PlayStation 3.
Considering Blu-ray movies typically cost between $20 and $30 each, the offer
amounts to a $100-150's worth of free movies-definitely not bad, especially
considering standalone Blu-ray players are starting to sink below $500.
The five movies will come from a list of 21 titles, including choices like
Pearl Harbor, Black Rain, Underworld, and Transporter 2. The complete list has
not been officially announced, but according to marketing materials seen by Ars
Technica, other movies included in the promotion are: The Guardian, Babel,
Invincible, Chicken Little, Corpse Bride, Blazing Saddles, Kiss of the Dragon,
The Phantom of the Opera, The Devil's Rejects, The Italian Job, The Last Waltz,
The Omen (2006), Stealth, Invincible, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Species, Hart's
War, Stir of Echoes, Underworld: Evolution.
