ZDNet columnist
Mary Jo Foley
says that Leopard looks a lot like Windows Vista and goes on to compare
Apples latest OS to Windows Vista: "Instead, it was the excitement by the 5,000
WWDC attendees about many technologies in the forthcoming Mac OS X Leopard
release that already exist in Windows Vista...a list follows"
Looks like the author obviously has no knowledge of the subject matter. First
of all, Apple announced many of these features before Vista was ever released,
so Microsoft probably just ripped off these features for Vista, it's what they
do best. Second of all, Vista is extremely buggy, and Leopard looked really
stable. Also, flip 3D is only to view open windows, sort of like expose, and it
has nothing to do with viewing files inside of folders. Quicklook allows you to
preview multiple slides in keynotes, and multiple pages in PDFs, thumbnail view
does not allow any of that. Also, there is one version of Leopard that is
optimized for both 32 and 64 bit apps, and even though there is a 32 and 64 bit
version of Vista, it is only optimized for one or the other, not both. Dashboard
and widgets have been around for awhile in Mac OS, and the sidebar and gadgets
in Vista are brand new, another rip off of Mac OS. Also, there were features
demoed off like stacks and spaces that are not available in Vista. Last but not
least, you are forgetting the most important thing, Steve only demoed off 10 of
the 300 new features of Leopard. It would be nice for at least one person at
ZDNet to know something of alternate OSes before attacking them...:] Ugh oh, I
feel a huge flame fest coming on :-)
