NVIDIA has released
a beta version 158.42 Vista driver for GeForce 8800-series graphics cards. The
driver is available for both
Windows Vista x86 and
Windows Vista x64. Nvidia claims this driver adds support for SLI multi-GPU
technology in DirectX 10 applications, improves both single-card and SLI
performance, and brings compatibility fixes in "numerous applications."
According to
relase notes (PDF), the driver certainly fixes its fair share of bugs.
Issues have been ironed out in Windows applications, Nvidia's control panel, and
also 3DMark03 through 06, Company of Heroes, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Doom
3, Far Cry, FEAR, Gothic 3, Lost Planet, Neverwinter Nights 2, Rainbow Six:
Vegas, and Unreal Tournament 2004. Users of GeForce 7 or GeForce
8600/8500/8400/8300 cards need not apply, though: Nvidia says this beta driver
is strictly for GeForce 8800-series cards.
