Starting with Edge version 146 (rolling out in the Beta Channel the week of March 12, 2026), users can no longer set new custom passwords, as Microsoft cites better security and recoverability with biometrics or device sign-in over non-recoverable custom ones. Existing users will retain the option until June 4, 2026, when it will automatically migrate to device authentication.
