Microsoft has
announced the retirement of its standalone SharePoint Online (Plans 1 and 2) and OneDrive for Business (Plans 1 and 2) subscriptions, as detailed in a partner advisory in late January 2026. The decision stems from low customer demand for these isolated offerings, higher operational costs to maintain them, and instances of unintended or nonstandard usage. Sales to new customers will end in June 2026, with renewals for existing subscribers phasing out starting January 2027, while current contracts continue until their expiration. Full end of service for all affected standalone plans is set for December 2029, after which customers must migrate to Microsoft 365 suites, additional capacity packs, or pay-as-you-go storage options.
