10 Geforce 8800 GTS 320Mb Video Cards Compared - [hardware]

Price / Performance formula = (average FPS/price)*100. Higher end value = better
The chaps over at MadShrimps take a further look at the Geforce 8800 320MB models from Asus, Albatron, Leadtek and the TEC cooled Calibre, comparing gaming performance, overclocking potential and cooling capability with the previous tested cards. This roundup should help you decide what card to get. Here's an excerpt:
- ASUS is not aiming for the lowest price with their EN8800GTS, though for around 20 extra you do get a nice software bundle: two pc games and one 3D Mark 2006 Pro version! Performance wise it is on par with the cheaper Sparkle/PNY cards we saw in our previous article, but people who are keen on having those extra's just can't go wrong with ASUS.

- Albatron offers a solid product, their pricing and performance has them on par with both Asus and Leadtek models; if availability is good in your country/town, you should be able to pick one up at a good price; overclocking wise the Albatron sample was among the best, reaching GPU core of 675Mhz.

- Leadtek with their metal plated heatsink is offering one of the better looking 8800GTS cards out there. Therefore we expected lots of fun added inside the box, though once we opened our sample we didn't found anything extra beside the basic equipment you get with every card. Price/performance wise it scored average, though if it wasn't for the heatsink we think there are better deal out there.

- Calibre (or shall we say Sparkle?) is the only manufacturer out there who is using aftermarket cooling. The MACS M-Sorceress II reduces the core operating temperature of the G80 GPU noticeably while keeping noise within acceptable range. For the overclockers this also means extra overclocking headroom, but don't expect miracles. For its price you also get one of the fastest cards in its class, only a tiny bit slower than XFX's card, and a very slick looking package with a PC game inside. Keep in mind that for 309 this isn't the cheapest card out there.

With 10 different cards stress tested on our overclocked Intel Core 2 Duo system, I can safely recommend the Geforce 8800 GTS 320Mb for a high end gaming rig, as most manufacturers share the same PCB design and cooler the main difference lies in extras and support deals, the price goes up as standard GPU clocks are increased, you pay a premium for a pre-tested overclocked model but do get reassurance and warranty on these faster models. Overall when it comes down to overclocking we noticed a tendency of improved GPU OC potential with the new samples as these reached speeds well beyond reference.
