This CNews story reports that sales of Blu-Ray disks blew away sales of the rival HD-DVD format. 70 percent of high-def disks sold in the first quarter of 2007 were in the Blu-Ray format compared to just 30 percent of HD-DVD. Word is: "From January 1-March 31, consumers bought almost 1.2 million high-definition discs--832,530 Blu-ray units and 359,300 HD DVDs--according to Home Media Magazine. In March, consumers bought 335,980 Blu-ray Discs and 119,570 HD DVDs."
Ed.note: If you have previously read somewhere
that Wal-Mart will soon (cough cough... in 2008) begin selling a $299 stand
along HD-DVD player which will be much cheaper than even the cheapest
Blu-Ray disk player. It was mistranslated! The players are actually
going to be Blu-ray. Well,
Costco has a Toshiba HD-DVD player on sale now for $349. No question those will be less than $300 by Christmas...
