A
new driver confirmed new G80 chips from Nvidia.
Forceware 158.16 has at least four new G80 chips we haven't seen before. The
first one is G80-400, then there is a G80-200 chip and finally G80-600 is listed
and the mystical one Geforce 8800 Ultra. Well, there's
nothing really fancy
with the upcoming GeForce 8800 Ultra. It's just a higher clocked G80 card.
It still has 128 stream processors and has 768MB of GDDR3 memories onboard. The
card design is similar to 8800 GTX but it comes with a bigger cooler. There are
2 cooler designs for the card makers to choose from.
The Inquirer says NVIDIA is aiming for 10-15% improvement in benchmarks, so
we can expect a ~ 650-700MHz core clock. The GeForce 8800 Ultra could very well
match up against the Radeon HD 2900 XTX card but the price is going to pull it
down if it gonna stays at US$999. May is clearly an exciting month where we can
see lots of action from both sides.
