Marvell
Technology Group rolled out a single-chip solution that combines Bluetooth
core specification version 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate (EDR)-compliant baseband,
a radio frequency transceiver and a worldwide FM radio receiver. The company
also said its 88W8688 single-chip Bluetooth solution, introduced last year, has
been certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group for Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR.
The new 88W8689 Bluetooth single-chip solution features a Bluetooth Core
Specification Version 2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate (EDR)-compliant baseband, a radio
frequency (RF) transceiver, and a worldwide FM radio receiver. 88W8688 is the
world's first WLAN plus Bluetooth single-chip solution for high-volume consumer
electronics, has been qualified by the Bluetooth SIG for the Bluetooth Core
Specification Version 2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate (EDR). The 88W8688 also features
support for Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR features. Marvell said the 88W8689
is currently sampling with tier-one customers and is expected to be in
production in the second half of this year.
