DigiTimes
has poblished the complete list of new desktop CPU prices following the
recent price cut from AMD. As you can see, the biggest cuts went to the fastest
X2 CPUs, with the 6000+ going from $464 to just $241, while the 5600+ is now
priced at $188 (from $326). As a result of the cuts, AMD now offers two
dual-core CPUs below $100, the X2 3600+ and the X2 3800+, while the 4800+ can
now be had for less than $150. Several products have also been discontinued including the socket AM2-based Athlon 64 FX-64, and the socket 745-based Sempron 3400+ and 3000+. Under the newly published list, socket 745 has been phased-out, while only three socket 939 units remain suggesting that this architecture will also be discontinued soon.
As a result of these new prices, there really is no excuse not to go dual-core.
In related news,
AMD said revenue declined sharply quarter-over-quarter for its computing
solutions business, with lower prices and significantly lower unit sales. The
company said it plans to reduce 2007 capital expenditures by about $500 million,
cut discretionary expenses and limit hiring to critical positions.
