Super Talent Technology sent us a press release announcing new
4GigaByte DDR2 Fully Buffered DIMMs (FB-DIMMs).
These modules were designed for use in the latest Intel Xeon server boards
based on the Intel 5000P (Blackford) chipset. These JEDEC compliant 240-pin dual
rank modules are organized as 512Megabit x 72. Thirty-six pieces of 256Megabit
x4 DRAM chips in FBGA packages are used to build these modules. These modules
have already been validated in the Intel 5000PSL and other leading server
boards.
In related news, Super Talent Technology also announced
a full range
of Solid State Disk (SSD) drives with an industry standard Serial ATA
interface. This new line of SATA drives is offered in industry standard
1.8-inch, 2.5-inch, and 3.5-inch form factors, making these drives 100%
compatible with conventional hard disk drives. However, these products are built
with only solid state Flash components. Since they contain no moving parts, SSD
drives have the advantage of being far more rugged and reliable than regular
hard drives, while using 85% less power. Moreover, because SSD drives are built
using Flash technology, they offer sequential transfer speed comparable to
magnetic drives and dramatically faster access speed. Super Talent's 1.8-inch
SATA drives are offered in up to 32GigaByte capacities; 2.5-inch drives are
available in up to 64GigaBytes; and for high capacity requirements Super Talent
offers a 128GigaByte 3.5-inch drive. These RoHS compliant products will be
available in April 2007 to OEMs and resellers directly from Super Talent.
Pricing to be released in April.
