Samsung Galaxy Note 10 - Early Look - [mobile]

The Galaxy Note 10 isn't expected to hit the market until August, but we're already getting an early look at the design thanks to OnLeaks. These aren't official renders, but the images are instead created by OnLeaks based on CAD files. It looks like this year's version of the Galaxy Note is taking a very rectangular approach to phone design. First there's the display, which has sharper corners than previous versions, which used rounded display corners. The bottom and top edges of the phone look almost completely flat, while the longer sides curve around the phone making it easier to hold. It kind of looks like an old Nokia Lumia Phone. The Galaxy S10 debuted Samsung's hole punch-style display, which, rather than a notch, cut a hole in the display (with lasers!) giving you a spot for the camera. On the Galaxy S10 this hole was in the upper-right corner; on the Galaxy Note 10 it's apparently dead center. The Galaxy S10+ featured two front-facing cameras, but here there is only one.

Google's Android rules require any display oddities (like a notch or this camera hole) to be fully surrounded by the status bar, giving apps a normal, rectangular area to work in. This design doesn't seem like it will solve the biggest problem with the S10 design, which is that the camera is placed so low in the display that the status bar will have to be larger than normal. Devices like the OnePlus 6T (from 2018!) took the best approach, which is just a camera notch small enough to fit inside a normal status bar area. While the Galaxy Note 10 display is big, apps won't be allowed to use anything next to or above that camera hole. The back design changes a lot from the Galaxy S10 and Note 9, which both housed the rear cameras in huge, horizontal strips. This Note 10 render shows a vertical camera strip on the left side of the phone, with three holes next to it for sensors, the LED flash, and a time-of-flight camera for 3D sensing. The whole camera setup is flush with the glass body of the phone.

Along the bottom edge of the phone, we see a USB-C port, the obligatory S-Pen, a speaker, and no headphone jack. These renders agree with the previous Galaxy Note 10 rumor we posted from Android Police: Samsung is dropping the headphone jack. That rumor also claimed the Note 10 would skip out on physical buttons in favor of touch-powered buttons. This render shows button bumps, but whether they click or are just touch points is inconclusive. Just like previous rumors, this report claims the Galaxy Note 10 would come in two sizes, with the new detail being that the bigger model is called the "Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Pro." This bigger model reportedly has a 6.75-inch display - a big increase over the 6.4-inch display in the Galaxy S10+ - while the smaller model has a 6.3-inch panel and lacks the Pro's depth camera.
