Killer Notebooks Assassin Review - [hardware] 05:04 AM EST - Jan,30 2007 - post a comment
TechWareLabs
has published a review of
Killer Notebooks Assassin Laptop. The Assassin is a workstation class type
notebook with its fast nVidia stripe (raid-0) and dual workstation graphics
accelerators (dual nVidia Quadro FX 2500M's).With names like Executioner and
Assassin, it seem clear that KillerNotebooks builds truely specialized notebooks
that will do most anything you want them to do. Based upon their ongoing company
statement, KillerNotebooks wants the public to know that when it comes to price
and performance, that you get great value and power within their notebook line.
Does the Assassin truly slay other notebooks?
We installed both 3D Studio Max and Inventor applications and tested the smoothness by which it shaded, rendered and animated models we had and found that the dual nVidia Quadro 2500m's produced very impressive speed and quality when it came to both applications. This notebook really has shined as a workstation in both 3D Studio Max and Inventor, for both mechanical design and animation. The large 20" display proudly displayed the clearest rendered images I have seen on an LCD to date and the brute power of the system powered by the SLI setup enabled ultra-smooth model manipulation and control. While in 3D Studio Max, we were delighted to find that the rendering was quite quick.
Its interesting to note that the Assassin and Executioner swap places for first and second in each benchmark and at no time was the M9700 ever out of 3rd place. Its additionally interesting as the Executioner has the Intel Core 2 Duo processor clocking in at 2.33 Ghz and the Assassin has the Turion X2 clocking in at 2.0 Ghz. Its clear that the Turion X2 is by no means an underpowered processor looking at these numbers. We must mention that both systems shipped with a raid 0 array, and DDR2 667, and as such the differences in the systems are limited to subsystem, chipsets, and CPU only. In the Sisoft Sandra - MultiMedia tests you can see that the Assassin ran an identical test to the M9700 and the Assassin came out ahead by a large margin. We feel this is due to the processor in the M9700 being a single core Turion and the ram being DDR and not DDR2 as in the Assassin.
