Midrange, high-end graphics card prices to rise - TechAmok
Midrange, high-end graphics card prices to rise - [hardware] 05:42 PM EST - Feb,23 2018 - (2 comments) Things are not looking good for everyone wishing to build a new gaming PC. As we all know, the prices for all modern graphics cards have sky-rocketed over the past few months. And according to NVIDIA, this situation will not be resolved soon as the prices will continue increasing through Q3 2018
NVIDIA was here at Massdrop HQ a couple of weeks ago re-confirming what
we already know. There is a couple of reason why there is a shortage
and also such a high demand of cards.
First the shortage.
All new cell phones coming out by Apple and Samsung (and others) last
year started using the same memory as graphics cards. Apple and Samsung
are willing to pay more for this memory to make sure they get it first
and all of it that they need. This has created a shortage of memory for
the much smaller companies like MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, and EVGA to make
graphics cards.
Next the demand
This is obvious as the mining craze thats been going on has created a
huge demand in the market as miners are goblin up just about every card
available on earth.
These two things combined has just made it a tough time for any system
builder out there that just wants a card or two for their rig.
While NVIDIA was here they also let us know that the pricing in the
market will continue to go up through Q3 of this year most likely
before we start seeing any type of relief. So, unfortunately the end to
this is not right around the corner and we have not seen the worst of
it yet.
Let me finish by telling everyone on Massdrop this. I will continue to
list graphics cards that I can for the community if I am able to offer
a competitive price. Also, as I have mentioned in other graphics cards
drops we are selling this for right above our cost just barely covering
back end expenses.
Why should Massdrop offer these cards above MSRP? Well, there are still
customers who want to build computers now and not wait 6, 9, 12 months
for the market to stabilize. So as long as I can bring them a better
deal than what is currently available I will continue to do so. That
being said MSRP is kind of out the window at this point so keep your
eye on market price VS Massdrop as you will not see any cards out there
anywhere close to MSRP for a while to come.

| (05:51 AM EST - Feb,24 2018) - admin | psolord> When did phones started using GDDR5 and GDDR5X memory? What a bunch of sorry excuses. Governments of the world should have banned all forms of Cryptocurrency and should have also fucked up all IHVs for this price hike.
I agree. They should ban cryptocurrency everywhere. And I need a new graphics card right now :-(
For all Bitcoin fans:
It’s clear that the most significant reason, by far, for the massively increasing demand for bitcoin is that people want to own it because they think that it will go up in price. They think it will go up in price because increasing numbers of people are going to want to buy it. The reason that they think that more people will want to buy it is that those people are going to believe that it will go up in price. This is a self-fulfilling prophesy.
This is also a demonstration of the standard operation of a bubble. It looks like a Ponzi scheme or a pyramid scheme. If I buy bitcoin today, it will be more valuable tomorrow because others have bought it at a higher price. As an existing “investor,” I am benefitting from others getting in. Meanwhile, what I’m actually owning is a bitcoin. Don’t get me wrong, bitcoin is valuable, but it’s not worth $10,000 per coin, or even $1,000 per coin. It’s a currency. It’s not Amazon or Apple stock.
I believe that bitcoin will be around in the future, and that it will not go to a zero price. I believe that other cryptocurrencies will come to the fore which are more able to handle the transactional needs of a larger number of people than bitcoin can.
I think it’s important to realize and remember that this is a bubble. Your coins are going up because the sucker after you is buying coins. And they’re only buying them because they think that the price will go up. | |
